History/Overview
The Civic is arguably best known as a sedan and hatchback, but Honda has offered a coupe, too, since the early 1990s. For many years, the sportiest Civics have traditionally worn this body style, but in the 10th generation, that title goes to the Type R hatchback.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2020, the Civic coupe gets some new features in certain trims, which we've detailed below, in the standard features section.
Available Trims
Honda offers the 2020 Civic coupe in LX, Sport, Touring and Si trims. LX and Sport use a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine, and Touring and Si share a turbocharged 1.5L, which is tuned for more power in the Si.
LX, Sport and Si are standard with a six-speed manual transmission. Touring is standard with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that's optional in LX and Sport. Si is not offered with an automatic.
Standard Features
Honda equips the Civic LX coupe with 16-inch alloy wheels, capless fuel filling, an electric parking brake, heated side mirrors, LED taillights, automatic on/off headlights, a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster display, automatic climate control, power windows/door locks/side mirrors, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, heated front seats with six-way driver and four-way front passenger adjustments, an eight-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bluetooth.
Standard safety and driver assist items are automatic high beams, forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure warning with lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control.
For 2020, Sport trim gets new seats done in a leatherette/cloth combo. Features carried over from 2019 include 18-inch wheels, the Honda LaneWatch blind spot display, a centre exhaust, fog lights, a sunroof, speed-sensing wipers, aluminum pedals, passive keyless entry, remote engine start (with CVT), and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
Touring trim adds LED fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with integrated garage door opener, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, leather upholstery, and a 10-speaker stereo with satellite radio.
New-for-2020 Si features are forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure warning and lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow.
The Civic Si coupe also upgrades last year's halogen fog lights for LEDs, adds side mirror-mounted turn signals, rain-sensing wipers, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Si carries forward its trim-specific limited slip differential and sport drive mode, adaptive dampers, and rear spoiler.
Fuel Economy
Honda's fuel consumption estimates for the Civic coupe are 7.8/6.1 L/100 km (city/highway) for the LX with CVT, and 9.3/6.7 with the stickshift. Sport/6MT ratings are the same, but Sport CVT consumption is higher, at 8.3/6.6 L/100 km. Touring trim estimates are 7.8/6.4 L/100 with its standard CVT and turbo engine, and the Si's figures are 8.9/6.4 for the turbo/6MT combo.
Competition
The Honda Civic is the only economy car-based coupe in the marketplace right now. Its most direct competitor is the Mini Cooper S/JCW, but performance-wise it also competes with the Volkswagen GTI, the Hyundai Elantra Sport, and the Kia Forte GT turbo.
